Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable and used in many devices in the workplace. OSHA has a Fact Sheet explaining that these batteries may present several health and safety hazards during manufacturing, use, emergency response, disposal, and recycling. Establishing a safety and health management system (SHMS) (i.e., safety program) is an effective way of protecting workers from potential hazards associated with lithium-ion batteries. The program may include proper ventilation, monitoring for flammable and toxic gases in large storage locations, using smart storage strategies, and understanding shipping and packaging for these batteries. #IdeaoftheDay
