Online scams related to COVID-19 are on the rise. In January 2017, the Identity Theft Tax Refund Fraud – Information Sharing Analysis Center (“ISAC”) was formed in partnership among the IRS, industry, and states. It consists of two components: the Platform, which serves as a centralized information-sharing vehicle, and the Partnership, which provides thought leadership, addresses legal barriers, and creates and maintains open channels of communication for the benefit of taxpayers.
