According to FreshBooks’ Women in the Independent Workforce, 2nd Annual Report, over the next 5 years, between 10 and 12 million women are expected to join the independent workforce in America. A large number of self-employed women (73%) report a better work-life balance and 68% earn as much if not more working for themselves. However, there is still a gender gap among the self-employed, with self-employed women in knowledge-based industries earning 17% less than men who do the same work.
