Using AI can streamline tasks for employers and improve workplace efficiency. But the U.S. DoL says federal labor laws continue to apply, and employees are entitled to the protections these laws provide, regardless of the tools and systems used in their workplaces. This means that using AI or other technologies to calculate and determine workers’ wage rates in light of minimum wage and overtime rules is fine, but doesn’t change employers’ obligations. The same is true for purposes of the Family and Medical Leave Act rules for employers with 50 or more employees. #IdeaoftheDay
