A California bill would allow up to 10 days of unpaid leave for bereavement (but would not displace any current paid leave already offered by a particular employer). The time off would have to be taken within 3 months following the death of a spouse or domestic partner, child, parent, sibling, grandparent, or grandchild. The measure would not exempt small businesses from having to provide this benefit.
