Tightening Job Market

The Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) shows a net employment gain of 2.1 million over the past 12 months, suggesting a scarcity of workers. NFIB’s monthly survey for August found that “demand for new workers remained high” and finding workers is the top-ranked problem in industries such as construction and manufacturing. Nearly one-third of small businesses reported increasing compensation in this tightening job market.
