According to the Tax Foundation, today is Tax Freedom Day. It represents how long Americans as a whole have to work in order to pay the nation’s tax burden. It’s figured by adding all federal, state, and local taxes, and dividing this by the nation’s income. In 2018, Americans will pay $3.39 trillion in federal taxes and $1.80 trillion in state and local taxes (30% of the national income). FYI: Last year it didn’t occur until April 24.
