Take Your Dog to Work Day

Started in 1999 by Pet Sitters International, Take Your Dog to Work Day has grown in popularity (and the organization supports Take Your Pet to Work Week from June 20 through today). If you’re a business owner who wants to let the staff participate in today’s event, be sure to make the terms clear about bringing a pet to your premises (e.g., limit on size, leashing, barking, or other noises) and don’t force other employees to interact with pets. Also take this day to consider whether to offer pet insurance as an employee benefit (coverage is available through MetLife, Nationwide, and other insurers), where the company arranges for the coverage at a group rate and enables premium payments by employees via payroll deductions. #IdeaoftheDay
