The employee retention credit (ERC) ended several years ago, but refund claims from this credit may still be pending. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act prevents the IRS from allowing or refunding ERCs after July 4, 2025, for the third and fourth quarters of 2021 if those claims were filed after January 31, 2024. The IRS has posted some FAQs to clarify the status of ERC refund claims. For example, if a claim was filed after January 31, 2024, but was refunded or credited before July 4, 2025, the IRS won’t send a bill to recoup the refund.
