A self-employed insurance salesperson and consultant who traveled between Oregon and Texas deducted extensive travel costs. He prepared his own return but he failed to have the requisite substantiation for his deductions. A list of clients and a calendar were insufficient proof. The Tax Court imposed a 20% accuracy-related penalty. He did not show any reasonable cause for the underpayment.
