A DOL report found that between 1980 and 2021, labor force participation for women ages 55 and older (“older women”) rose from 23.5% to 34.8%. For women 75+, the increase has been from 3.6% to 5.3% and for those 64 to 74, from 12% to 22.6%. Message to employers struggling to find and keep employees: acknowledge the unique needs of older women, such as access to paid leave to care for an ailing spouse or reasonable accommodations in the workplace, so they have the option to continue in the workforce. #IdeaoftheDay
