If you hire someone certified to be from a targeted group, including designated community residents and qualified summer youth employees, you may claim an income tax credit called the work opportunity credit. To do so, you must submit IRS Form 8850 to your state workforce agency. Usually this must be done within 28 days of the start of employment.
