Phishing Tops the IRS Dirty Dozen List of Tax Scams

Each year the IRS releases a list of the most common scams plaguing taxpayers. Phishing schemes continue to be on the annual list. These schemes are targeted not only at taxpayers, but also at tax professionals, payroll professionals, and human resources personnel. In these schemes, criminals pose as a person or organization known to the email recipient in order to gain access to personal information; often they infect the recipient’s computer with malware.
