Pay Transparency Laws Effective Today

New Jersey’s pay transparency law applies to employers with 10 or more employees over 20 calendar weeks that do business, have employees, or take applications in the state. Employers must make reasonable efforts to announce, post, or otherwise make known hourly wage and salary ranges, plus benefits, for new applicants and internal job openings. Vermont’s law, also effective today, applies to employers with 5 or more employees and also requires disclosure of a range of compensation. Pay transparency laws took effect at the start of this year in Illinois (15 or more employees) and Minnesota (30 or more employees). Other states with pay transparency laws include California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, and Washington. #IdeaoftheDay
