OSHA fines have been static since 1990. The reason: They had been exempted from inflation adjustments. That exemption ended with enactment of the Bi-Partisan Budget Act, which was signed into law on November 2. As a result, starting July 1, 2016, fines will increase dramatically (it remains for OSHA to publicize increases, which are expected to be about 80%). For example, the penalty that had been $7,000 is now $12,600.
