According to the IRS’s Spring Statistics of Income Bulletin, there were more than 24 million Schedule C filers in 2014, compared with 23.5 million the year before (a 1.9% increase). And more of these are profitable, because more than 19 million claimed the self-employment tax deduction, up from 18.7 the year before (a 2.1% increase).
