New Words Added to the Dictionary

Our language continues to grow, and new words are added to the dictionary each year. In 2025, the Oxford English Dictionary, which contains over 600,000 words, added 42 words, including lawfare (legal action undertaken to exert power or control), back-channeling (the practice of communicating by a method that circumvents official channels), truthiness (something that feels true even if it’s not), and debank (to remove a bank or access to banking services from a location or community). #IdeaoftheDay
