States’ pay transparency laws require employers to disclose salary information to job applicants and employees. States debuting their laws in 2025 and their effective dates are Illinois (1/1/25), Massachusetts (2/1/25), Minnesota (1/1/25), New Jersey (6/1/25), and Vermont (7/1/25). Note: While more than a dozen states, the District of Columbia, and some localities have pay transparency laws, the rules differ by location. For example, some laws only apply when companies have more than a certain number of employees (e.g., California law applies to companies with 15 or more employees).
