Mandatory severance pay?

That’s the rule now in New York City for employees displaced from transient hotels. On October 11, 2021, a new rule requires operators of these hotels to pay eligible employees for up to 30 weeks ($500 per week) or a total of $15,000 if the hotel closed and failed to reopen or rehire a set percentage of the staff, or underwent massive layoffs. The rule is temporary; it is set to expire on June 1, 2022. #IdeaoftheDay
