Payroll companies and HR departments are being targeted by scammers pretending to be from the IRS. An email purporting to be from the IRS asks for an updated list of employees with full details (names, social security numbers, dates of birth, home addresses, salary) or copies of W-2s. If you receive any such request appearing to be from the IRS, don’t respond to the email. The IRS does not initiate contact in this manner.
