A Business Tax Account (BTA) allows authorized users of certain types of businesses to access and manage their business tax information and offers the ability to make tax payments, review tax records, and read your latest notices from the IRS. BTAs were launched in the fall of 2023. Now, a designated official (DO) can now access a BTA on behalf of their S corporation or C corporation. A DO is a person who is legally authorized to bind the corporation and a current employee who received a W-2 form from the corporation for the most recent tax-filing year. DO examples: president, vice president, chief executive officer (CEO), chief financial officer (CFO), chief operating officer (COO), secretary, treasurer, LLC managing member. By registering as a DO, this person has full access to the corporation’s tax information and can act on behalf of the corporation within BTA. A corporation can have more than one DO. #IdeaoftheDay
