A proposed bill in the Senate—AI-Related Job Impacts Clarity Act (S. 3108)–would require quarterly reporting about the AI impact on jobs: the number of individuals laid off due to replacement or automation by AI of the functions performed by such individuals, the number hired due to AI, the number of positions not filled because of AI, the number trained or retrained by AI, and any other information related to how AI impacts jobs. Initially the law, if enacted, would apply only to reporting by public companies and government entities, but the requirement is expected to be extended to privately held companies. It’s unclear whether there will be any small business exemption. #IdeaoftheDay
