A number of visually impaired individuals brought lawsuits against retailers arguing that the stores must provide gift cards in braille; not doing so was a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. An appellate court recently threw out a consolidated case on the grounds that the individuals lacked “standing.” This was so even though they were customers who would have bought gift cards if they’d been available in braille. So, are businesses required by law to offer braille gift cards? It’s unclear, but serving the visually impaired community suggests it’s a good idea to offer the braille gift card option. #IdeaoftheDay
