The U.S. Department of Education rescinded the gainful employment rule effective July 1, 2020 (although it can be implemented now if desired). That rule had required educational institutions to report annually about student debt so that the information could be used to determine gainful employment debt-to-earnings, which was used to determine eligibility for certain government programs.
