Firing an Employee for Political Speech?

A company can’t take action that discriminates on the basis of race, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability (and certain union activities are protected). But there’s no federal protection for political affiliation. A Washington Post article explains that a few states ban discrimination based on political activity.
