A proposed rule would enable employers to offer fertility benefits as a limited excepted benefit, much like dental and vision care. Limited excepted benefits are often excluded from group health insurance but can be offered separately. Fertility benefits may include coverage to diagnose, mitigate and treat infertility and infertility-related conditions and may include medically appropriate items or services targeted to address such conditions. A lifetime dollar limit of $120,000 (adjusted for “medical” inflation) would apply to fertility benefits (but a final rule could instead adopt an annual limit). #IdeaoftheDay
