Safe leave allows employees to use their sick days for personal safety concerns resulting from domestic violence. Their accrued sick days can be used to not only seek medical attention for injuries (normal sick days), but also attend court hearings for protective orders, meet with law enforcement, find new housing, and get counseling services. Currently, 15 states and DC have paid sick leave laws that include use for safe leave purposes. Even if you are not required to offer paid sick leave but do so, you can easily change the benefit to encompass safe leave. #IdeaoftheDay
