Under the Defend Trade Secrets Act, which is now 5 years old, there is a federal civil remedy for thefts of trade secrets that have been misappropriated. This is similar to protections for patents, trademarks, and copyrights. It allows an action for violations of trade secrets in interstate or foreign commerce.
