Deadline Today for Heavy Truckers to e-File their Use Tax Return

Those who have registered, or are required to register, large trucks and buses with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more must e-file the annual Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return. This applies for vehicles first used in July 2025. Taxpayers that have 25 or more taxed vehicles registered in their name must e-file Form 2290 and pay the tax. On vehicles expected to be used for 5,000 miles or less (7,500 for farm vehicles), they must file a return, but no tax is due. If the vehicle exceeds the mileage use limit during the tax period, the tax becomes due. For some perspective, in 2023, there were over 817,000 e-filed forms filed for excise taxes, including those for heavy highway vehicle use tax returns. #IdeaoftheDay
