C Corporation Renting Owner’s Home

The home office deduction rules don’t apply to C corporations that rent a portion of a shareholder’s residence. However, the rental arrangement must be bona fide for the corporation to deduct the rents. One Tax Court case illustrated what was missing to prove this: a written rental agreement and the shareholder including the rental payments as income on his return.
