The Online Sales Simplicity and Small Business Relief Act (H.R. 6824) is a bipartisan measure that would protect online businesses from states imposing excessive regulatory sales tax collection requirements. The bill is in response to a Supreme Court decision in June that effectively allows states to require remote sellers to remit sales tax on transactions within their borders. If enacted, it would bar any collection of sales tax on transactions that occurred prior to June 21, 2018. And it would require states to exempt small sellers (defined as a remote seller with gross annual receipts of not more than $10 million).
