A report from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that rate of bicycle commuting for the 50 largest U.S. cities increased from 0.6% in 2000 to 1.0% in 2008–2012. Workers living in principal cities walked to work at a rate of 4.3% (the national average is 2.8%). This compared with 86.2% who get to work by car, truck, or van.
