According to a study by Expert Market, the percentage of employees absent from work in the U.S. 2022 was 6.04%, up from 3.02% in 2021. The annual cost of this to employers in the U.S. is $225.8 billion, or $1,685 per employee. The main reasons for absenteeism are what you’d expect: illness, mental health, injuries, and poor health. But childcare and eldercare, burnout, disengagement, and bullying/harassment were other causes. New initiatives to reduce absenteeism include flexible/remote work, paid leave, and wellness programs. #IdeaoftheDay
