Today represents a big day for many retailers, restaurants, and other businesses. The National Retail Federation (NRF) expects a record $29.1 billion to be spent today (up from $27.5 billion last year). NRF says the most popular gift categories this year include candy (56%), flowers (41%), greeting cards (41%), an evening out (39%), and jewelry (25%). The most popular shopping destinations are online (38%), department stores (35%), discount stores (30%), and florists and specialty stores (each with 21%). #IdeaoftheDay
