The Tax Foundation posted its 2026 State Tax Competitiveness Index, which ranks, both overall and across 5 subindices—individual income taxes, corporate taxes, sales and excise taxes, property and wealth taxes, and unemployment insurance taxes. The 5 best states: Wyoming, South Dakota, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Florida. The 5 worst states: Maryland, Connecticut, California, New Jersey, and New York. There is an interactive tool that can be used to drill down to states’ tax aspects as well as to compare state rankings in prior years. #IdeaoftheDay
