With smartphones, tablets, and laptops, many employees in the U.S. are effectively at work 24/7; they can be contacted at any time. Several countries, including Australia, Brazil, France, and Germany, have right to disconnect laws that enable employees to be off smartphones and other devices after business hours. There is some interest in having similar laws here, although nothing has yet been enacted. California’s bill, which was proposed last year, would require employers to allow employees to ignore communications after business hours (other than for emergencies). #IdeaoftheDay
