Independence Day 2025 (Federal Holiday)

Today is the federal holiday for Independence Day. As it says in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” As noted annually, of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, most were self-made men—merchants, lawyers, doctors. Today, the U.S. Postal Service, many banks, and other businesses are closed in observance of the holiday. AAA predicts a record 72.2 million Americans will travel during this long weekend. #IdeaoftheDay
