Intuit projects that there will be 7.6 million people working as providers in the on-demand economy by 2020, compared with 3.2 million today. These people are independent contractors/freelancers connected with customers (e.g., Uber drivers, those finding work through Task Rabbit and talent workplaces such as Upwork and Fiverr).
