Maryland had allowed its residents to claim a tax credit for taxes paid on earnings in another state but did not allow any offset for its county taxes. The U.S. Supreme Court said this tax scheme was a burden on interstate commerce and struck down the double tax. The case involved S corporation owners who had income in several states.
