A report from the SBA’s Office of Advocacy found that government contracts were highly concentrated in four sectors (construction; professional, scientific, and technical services; administrative and support, waste management and remediation services; and manufacturing). The small business procurement rate for the government’s 2012 fiscal year was below the national goal of 23% in every sector but construction. Most serious underutilization of small businesses: relatively low level of dollars awarded to small contractors.
