Patent trolls pursue questionable patent infringement claims by acquiring cheap patents and then threatening businesses that use similar technology to pay onerous licensing fees or be sued. Vermont is protecting its businesses with a law allowing businesses to sue patent trolls. Patent trolls can be forced to pay the businesses’ legal fees and damages. A similar federal bill has been introduced.
