A bill (S. 698) that would require online sellers to uniformly collect sales taxes is back before Congress (it’s failed to pass despite efforts in the past several years). The measure is largely favored by Main Street, which feels it is unfairly burdened with this tax collection versus online sellers. As in the past, it contains a “small seller exception” for businesses with annual “remote” sales in the prior year under $1 million. Chances of passage this time? Who knows?
