Today was supposed to be the expiration of the Internet Tax Freedom Act (originally enacted in 1998 and extended several times) that had barred states from taxing Internet access (with some exceptions). However, before Congress adjourned to begin campaigning for the elections being held this Tuesday, it passed a continuing resolution extending the expiration date to December 1, 2014. The Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act (H.R. 3086) passed the House this past July, but the bill is awaiting action from the Senate.
