If you do business in an empowerment zone, you may be eligible for tax breaks on your 2014 federal income tax return (original or amended); the breaks have yet to be extended for 2015. The IRS says the zones in effect on December 31, 2014, apply for all of 2014. To date, no states or municipalities have declined a designation.
