Final regulations allow employers to reduce or suspend their contributions to 401(k) plans on behalf of employees under certain circumstances without having to show substantial business hardship. These regulations generally apply to amendments adopted after May 18, 2009. The amendments to the requirements for permitted mid-year reductions or suspensions of safe harbor matching contributions apply for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2015.
